Chapter 12

I went to visit Finny but the Dr. Stnapole wouldn't let me in. When I snuck in I said to Finny that "I want to fix your leg up" (176). Finny then said to me that it was basically ok. He said "you'll fix my..." (176). When he did this he went to stretch out and he fell out of his bed. The next day Dr. Stanpole went to reset the break and some bone marrow had got into the bloood-stream and sadly Finny had died.

Chapter 11

I went back to Devon. I told every one Leper had changed and Brinker replied "he was out of his mind" (149). Finny had started a snow ball fight and I was obcouse forced to join in on the game. Later Brinker came in to our room and dragged me and Finny to this court room they had constructed to see what really happened to Finny that day in the tree. Finny tryed to protect me he said things like " You were down at the bottom, weren't you"(162)? I felt like they were all accusaing me, but they insisted "No, were not accusing you "(163). Then Finny became very angry he ran out the door and fell downthe stairs. "His body falling clumsily down the white marble stairs" (169). We knew that could not be good.

Chapter 10

I went to Leper's Christmas location, "It meant that he was at his home"(131). I went to his house and found him. I had a feeling he had deserted the army and I was correct. For Leper to desert there must have been a very good reason. He said "I escaped" (135). He told me how he saw people change and things that were not there and that he was on an insanity discharge. then he said to me "You're thinking I'm a psycho"(135). He then told me if he was discharged he would never beable to get a normal job again. I kicked his chair and became angry Leper ivited me to stay for lunch once we had both calmed down again. We went for a walk after nad we both felt better I believe he feels better about himself because of that. There is definalty something different, he used to be the old snail and beaver dam Leper but now he is different more angry and less tolerant.

Chapter 9

Leper Leppiller joined the ski troops none of us could believe it he just enlisted. "His enlistmen seemed just another of Leper's vagaries"(115). We began to joke that behind every win of the Allied troops Leper must have done something that caused the victory. Finny got the idea to have a winter carnival and began to asign people certain tasks to complete and accoplish. It seemed everyone became intoxicated by the cider, "the most cautiously guarded treasure"(123). The carnival was a great sucess I helped entertain the audience with a little running. They seemed t enjoy it. At the end of the day I recieved a telegram from Leper saying "I have escaped and need help"(129). This was a confusing message and i sought out to find the origin of it and its meaning. I went to Leper's "Christmas Location".

The suitcase Gene packed for Finny seemed to resemble that Gene was packing his bag to take with him to an after life of some sort.

Chapter 7

Brinker constantly jokes with me saying I did a nice job getting rid of Finny so I could have a nice big room all to myself. I made it seem like I took the joke as a joke but it honestly hurt me deep down inside. He then said "I feel like a smoke, don't you" (80)? Then he said something that really hurt "Yes, yes to thye dungeon with you"(80) again with the jokes about Finny. We went down to the "Butt Room" but then he kept making jokes about the incident and I couldn't take it and told every one that I had to study French. Later to help with the shortage of workers me and the other boys at Devon begin to shovel snow for the train. It was not fun and "by the middle day had lost our fresh volunteer look"(88). The work was grueling and tiring. After hearing all the other boys talking about enlisting it seems fun to leave this life for something new, the military. I returned to the room and was surprised to see Finny sitting in our room.

Chapter 6

Now that Leper is gone Brinker Hadley has moved into his old room across the hall from Finny and I's room. I don't really like him. I went to the Crew meeting because I am Assitant Senior Crew Manager. I have to work with Cliff Quackenbush he thinks he is the best. He decided to make fun of me because my position is usually given to the disabled. Quackenbush said "Listen you maimed son-of-a-bitch..."(71). this infuriated me so I hit him and then he tried to do some fancy wrestling move so I pulled him off then we got launched into the water. I was angered by what he had called me because Finny now was and I felt a slight responsiblity to stand up to people like him. I told him "The next time you call anybody maimed, you better make sure they are first"(71) I left in a rage. On the way home Mr. Ludbury saw me and chewed me out for taking advantage of the summer subsititute he told me he knew of the beach trip and the poker and gambling. "If only I had taken true advantage of the situation"(74). I truely regret not taking full advantage of it. I had recieved a long distance phone call and I called the person back, it had been Phineas. He told me to keep the room open for him and that I needed to do sports for his sake not for mine. This gave me a sense of relief. Finny still cared for me. He also asked me if I was still crazy like I was when I told him i made him fall.

Chapter 5

Finny's leg had shattered apon impact with the solid earth. I feel bad. No one even suspects me of rocking the branch. Which is good and bad "If anyone had been suspicious of me, I might have developed somekind of strength to defend myself" (53), but no one had which made it especially hard on me. I have spent hours in my room alone questioning myself whether Ihad done that to Finny on purpose or not. One day I dressed myself in Phineas's cloths and his pink shit which i had told him "It makes you look like a fairy"(17). I felt a slight relief come over me. "That night I slept easliy" (54). The next morning i was awoken with a slight sense shock. "I was confronted with myself, and what I had done to Finny"(54). I went to see Finny and the docotor told me that Finny was done with sports for good. As much as I protested the answer just couldn't be changed. When I saw Finny, he did not accuse me nor complain he just said that something had jostled him off the branch. Then he said he reached he had reached for me then I felt he had reached for me to take me down with him. He explained that he just wanted me to grab him and I told him how I tried but he fell to rapidly for me to catch him. I was about to tell him but then Dr. Stanpole walked in and sent me away. In september I went to return to Devon but I became side-tracked and went to see Finny at his house. I told him what I had done I now regret it because I only hurt him more and he refused to even except it. Then he told me he would return to Devon by Thanksgiving.

Chapter 8

I was with Finny and I was wearing a working cloths because I was just back from work he jokingly made fun of me being the worst dressed person in the class."Where did you get those clothes"(95)? Finny didn't want help with anything he became angry when asked if he needed any. Something compelled me to not enlist it was the look on Finny's face. "You're going to enlist It feels good to know that Finny is going to train me for the Olympics. Finny seems to be having fun with it. We began to call Brinker "Yellow Perril"(101). Finny and I skipped class and went to the gym to catch up and this is where he first showed that he wanted to train me. " Were grooming you for the Olympics, pal in 1944"(109). THere was no telling Finny any different i began to train. I finally found my self while running I feel great now and have become a much better athelete.

Chapter 4

I failed my triginometery test but its fine ill just have to work harder in that class now. Finny is acting wierd because i have been working hard on school because i wanna do well and succeed. I asked Finny what he would do if I was Valedictorian. "He said I'd kill my self out of jealous envy" (44)He was serious though and i could tell that he really was jealous. I feel like he tried to make me fail so this way i couldn't be better than him in school."The joking manner was a screen "(44). He was truely jealous of me this hurt because he didn't want me to suceed. The only real challenge in school for me is Chet Douglass. Finny thought that chet would beat me "Fat chance you got any way with Chet Douglass around"(44) i no realize everything was a plot fo him to beat me to be better. the only thing i could beat him was school. "Written tests were his down fall"(46). He was a good athellte and I was decent. But he was tereble a school and I lead the class in grades. so I am overall better than he is. I feel really good when I work hard and it shows. I feel good especially when I'm ahead of Chet Douglass. I figure if I am valedictorian I will have matched all of Finny's athletic awards. I told Mr. Prudd'Homme about Finny and I's trip to the beach and he didn't even care I was shocked. One night while I was studying Finny came in and told me Lep was going to jump and I told him my grades were going to drop again. He was shocked because he never knew I had to study he thought it just came naturally to me like sports did to him he told me i could stay but I went just to see Lep jump. I then began to realize mabey there never was a rivalary between the two of us and it was all in my head. Finny and i climbed up to jump just like any meeting until I bumped the branch and Finny plumetted toward the earth with a horrifing thud apon impact. I jumped into the river to see check on him. This can not be good i thought.

Chapter 3

Now that we have created the Super Suicide Club we have meetings every nght. "I hate it" (25). I didn't like jumping the river. Even though " I never got injured to the jumping into the river" (25). It seemed as thouhg the branch became higher and higher each time i climbed up the tree, even the jump seemed longer. Yet i still did it at the begining of every meeting. ONe day we found out we had to play badmitton. Finny was furious "Badminton! ... What are they trying to do ? ... Destroy us?" ( 27). He was infuriated but i wasn't as upset. At least we didnt have to do calistecticas. Finny set off to find something else to do as always the rest of us set to follow himm. we started toward the tower. There we found a medicine ball. Finny began to make up a game which came to be know as blitzball. Blitzball began to take up most of our days. Blitzball was a game perfectly designed for Finny mostly becasue he diesigned it. Later me and finny went to he pool. We saw a record on the wall for "A. Hopkins Parker" it was a 53.0 second time for the 100 yard freestyle. He broke the record by .7 seconds but didnt want to tell any one about it i couldn't understand why. Later we both went to the Beach on our bikes it was awsome the sand and the ocean. I hadn't studied for the triganometery test i had the next day and i had a bad feeling about that but it didn't matter that much it was a great time with my best friend.

Chapter 2

"Our absence from dinner had been noticed" (14). Mr. Prud'homme showed up at our door to talk to us about our absense. Once again Phineas got us out of trouble with his brilliance. I am slightly envious of his skill to relieve himslef and others of troubles they find themselves in. Finny decided to wear a pink shirt. I told him "It makes you look like a fairy"(17)! I slightly envied him for being able to get away with this celebration. I couldn't believe that Finny got away with wearing a school tie as a belt he really has a talent for getting away with things. Mr. Patch-Withers even laughed which is a very rare encounter. Later we left and went to the river to swim the party was hot and boring. We both got on the limb and i almost fell but Finny saved me! if he had not been their I could ghave died. I thought about it later after diner "i could have fallen on the bank and broken my back" (24)! Sometimes i realize how good of a friend Finny is.

Chapter 1

Gene

I was at the school over the summer. I was with Phineas, and some of the other guys who were at the school. We went for a walk and came above the huge tree. Phineas wanted to climb the large tree and jump of it into the river, which we all knew was forbidden. "No one but Phineas could think up such a crazy idea" (6). The tree was, "Tremendus, an irate, steele black steeple beside the river" (6).Then Phineas stipped out of his clothes and leaped up the tree and climbed up on to a limb which over hung the river. He then jumped and crashed in to the water, we were amused by the leap that he had just conquered. I was up next, i stripped down and climbed the tree just as Finny had. When i got to the top i could not help but admire the view i felt as though i had such prestiege beign so high above the ground. The branch was not as I thought it was, "It was more slenderer than it looked from the ground and much higher"(9). I then sprang off the branch making sure i got far enough from the shore not to tuch down in the shallow water. I hit the water and my feet hit the soft mud and i was fine. I felt a great rush right after that. Then we went to the dormitories and got in to our pahjamas. "But Phineas who heard they were unmilitary, didn't" (13).
